The Behringer DCX2496 is an crossover that is made for multiple speaker system and speaker arrays. This unit is of special interest to live sound engineers and sound installation contractors.
The DCX2496 can configured in a varity of ways to deliver the correct frequencies to the appropriate speaker. IE. You don't want to be sending frequencies below 100hz to your tweeters. The UltraDrive crossover has three analog inputs where one of the inputs can be configured to be used as a AES/EBU digital input. The unit then has 6 analog ouputs. Inbetween the inputs and outputs is the crossover processor.
The 24-bit AD converters and DA converters run from 32kHz to 96kHz so the audio integrity of your sound won't be compromised. The DCX2496 uses the high acclaimed AKM converters so you can rest assured that the signal integrity is top notch. The AKM converters boast a dynamic rand of 113 dB (which is a lot!). You can also connect the UltraDrive to external digital devices because it has a builtin sample rate converter.
Basically the Behringer UltraDrive is a multi-band Eq with limiting and delay capabilities. Each EQ band can be selected for the frequency range of the speaker system. The cool thing is that the limiter section is also multi-band because it happens after the multi-band eq. The 'Zero Attack" limiters guarantee signal and loudspeaker protection.
There are 4 operating modes the DCX2496 can work in. 2 Mono and 2 Stereo. There are also different types of EQ algorithms you can select from:Butterworth, Bessel and the highly sought after Linkwitz-Riley. You can change the frequency roll-off from -6dB per octave to a huge -48dB per octave.
The delay section for the inputs and the outputs are all adjustable. You can run the unit in auto mode where the unit will correct for room temperature as well as phase and delay arrival time errors. The UltraDrive and be remote controlled using RS-232 or RS-485 interfaces. You can use the Behringer UltraDrive software to confirgure and control multiple units.
Its high-power 32-bit Sharc®-DSP and ultra-high resolution Crystal®/AKM® A/D & D/A converter provide outstanding audio performance--and the servo-balanced, gold-plated XLR connectors for all inputs and outputs guarantee excellent connectivity for the years to come.
